“Every kingdom that is divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” Matthew 12:25
“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent me.” John 17: 20-21
Oneness is what Jesus most wants for us. He wants us to join the oneness He enjoys with the Father and the Spirit. He wants us to be one so we can stop being divided against ourselves and against our neighbor. Everything Jesus did was done moving toward this goal.
Discipleship is always in the direction of oneness and away from division. The end of a division between ourselves and God is Jesus’ first work for us at Calvary. The end of our inner divisions against ourselves is Jesus’ continuous work in us as we abide in Him. The end of our divisions against our neighbors is Jesus’ continuous work through us as He makes us salt and light.
Seeking the oneness Jesus wants for us is to seek first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness. All things we need to live will be added to us as we seek the oneness Jesus wants for us.
Without oneness nothing can stand. The cure for division against ourselves and others is in the oneness found and received in Jesus.
Make it your goal to be one with the Father, Son and Spirit by abiding in Jesus. This oneness we live is what draws others to oneness in Jesus and out of division.
